Our new Game system and Trasler's Wealth, the campaign!

 Hey everyone!

I've decided to leave my post about end goals for the campaign, as I'm just about to start a new campaign as DM and really want to see what happens first.

Together with some international friends I've been working on my own game system, based mostly on ICRPG, but classless and in my case it doesn't feature experience either. We're going to try this out in my campaign setting of Trasler's Wealth, a setting I've been building for a few years now and never found time or system to run it with.

So let me first talk about my system a bit: There are only disciplines and three levels of proficiencies per discipline. You can mix and match as much as you like, but there is a cap of 12 proficiencies per character. So you could take 'journeyman bow' and 'master fighter' and spend 4 proficiencies. It will also take some time to learn new proficiencies, so you can't just always get to the trainer and you've learned it.

We take the effort dice that ICRPG uses (every challenge has HP to overcome) and I've added some skills that are non-combat focussed. Every player may choose one of those (for now) to start with. I've asked them a load of questions like: what do you fear, what is your ideal, name 2 people who came before you to this island and one that you left behind.

Now about the campaign: I've been wanting to play it for a time now. It started out as a 100 hexes hexcrawl, but I got to hex 5 and quit. So now I made it a lot smaller. It's an island that was colonized 30 years ago but they've only inhabited a small part of it. It has a mineral called Dream Salt, which makes you dream lucid. Dreamwalkers can control their dreams and some can even control reality through dreams if they take the mineral. There are other effects, like dangerous magic, and rusty waters, which will be explained to the players soon.

Dreamsalt made the island super rich, as every court in the world wants it. The island is just too far away and well protected to conquer, and the taxes aren't that bad. Every nation in the world has a guild doing their biddings, and Treslar, the king and founder, sits back and gets rich.

The island looks uninhabited by any civilization other than their own. Things will change soon though. I will start using timers and pressure for the players, although it might be hidden for them in the first few sessions, as they might not understand the consequences that things have. I'm trying to be very vague here, as my friends read the blog.

I've now planned for the first three sessions. They can take several routes that I calculated, or they can do anything else, but I'll have to improvise. I know how the world revolves and what will happen, so as long as I know that, the games will be fine!

Inktober and World Map creation

I love making maps for my games, even if they have little information that will actually be used. So today I'll show off some maps that I made. I usually draw with ink in my notebook, scan my notebook and color it with Photoshop. I'm really bad at using Photoshop, so sometimes I'll keep my maps unpainted.

I'm going to make 31 maps for different regions of the world in Inktober and put them all together in one file within Photoshop. I also might color them. It's going to be a project, but I'm really looking forward to it.

This is a map I made for fun. It's about desert settlements surrounding a lake. I numbered some interesting locations, although I never really filled them in with names or more information. This was more a practice run into drawing and painting. I really like how it turned out though as the water stands out from the landscape and the mountains look really rocky.

This is a map I made for the Island of Trasler's Wealth, after which this blog is named. I was messing around with Photoshop, which made me learn a lot, but also made me make mistake. I like the waterlines and the forests. The mountains are worse here, so I'll work on that during Inktober.

And this is the testrun for putting maps together for Inktober, The Western Waldayen Empire. You can see that the lines of the northeaster part are not that nice, as I had to twist the picture to fit on the rest, but I'm quite happy with the result. It's made out of three drawings put together. I can work on different settlement icons, but I should choose that before I go into Inktober.

In the end I can say I'm excited to go do Inktober and I bought a notebook today to do it. I'll post results here once every few days, when a continent is finished.

Also the next post on the 29th will be less rolling table, and more world building, but in October I'm returning to writing rolling tables for this blog again.

Welcome to Trasler's Wealth, a blog about TTRPG's.

Hey adventurer,

Welcome to Caelin’s blog about Dungeons and Dragons, also known as “Trasler’s Wealth”.

The name Trasler’s Wealth has its origin as a small island I made up for a campaign (they never traveled there), where a small group of Adventurers, led by the famous Treslar, killed a dragon and built a town using the money of the hoard.
The name stuck with me. In my second idea it was an independent colony on the Dream Island of Arawynn. There was a salt on the island that made you adjust your dreams and even make reality out of your dreams if you were talented as dream walker. The colony flourished, but I never finished the setting.
Now Trasler’s Wealth” is the name of this blog. A library of what the adventurer Treslar encountered on his travels. I hope you will enjoy the entries.

The goal of this blog is to go beyond my usual creativity and challenge myself to come up with new thoughts about D&D. This will mostly be roll tables, but I’ll add some other things on there too. I’m planning on one big entry every 31st of a month.

Next to that I hope to find some contacts in the D&D community through reactions.
